Betty's Easy Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C, 160C fan, gas 4.
  2. Mix the egg, water, oil and brownie mix together until well blended (mixture may be lumpy). Fold through the zest of 1 orange and the chocolate pieces.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly into the greased and lined rectangular tin.
  4. Bake in the centre of the oven for around 20-25 minutes or until a rounded knife, inserted 5cm (2") from the edge of the tin comes out almost clean. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
  5. Meanwhile place the chocolate, butter and golden syrup into a microwaveable bowl. Cook in the microwave on 600W for 30 seconds. Stir and continue cooking for another 30 seconds. You should now have a melted sauce. Stir through half of the orange zest.
  6. Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the brownies and garnish with the remaining orange zest. Chill in the fridge for 15 minutes to set the chocolate then slice to serve.
