How to Mix Muffin Batter

Muffins are delicious and easy to make, but if you want a perfectly turned out tray of muffins, than the key is mixing the batter correctly. Overmixing can result in really tough-to-chew muffins.

We walk you through how to mix muffin batter to ensure your muffins are light and fluffy.

How to Mix Muffin Batter?

  • Folding your batter is a gentle method of mixing and very effective for muffins – simply use a spoon or spatula to cut down to the bottom of the mixture, move it across the bottom of the bowl, and come back up, folding some of the mixture from the bottom of the bowl to the top. This method will also allow more air into the batter, giving your marvellous muffins a great rise.
  • Don’t use an electric mixer, this can result in a really tough texture.
  • When adding additional yummy treats into your muffin mix, such as chocolate chips or nuts, make sure you stir them in gently.
  • Make sure all your ingredients are evenly distributed. Your batter should be well mixed, but don’t worry too much if there are a few lumps.
